Our Workshops

We have a very well equipped workshop (based in Brighton, UK) with a team of craftsmen and women with over 30 years of experience in making all kinds of jewellery including pendants, rings, earrings, hand-engraving, re-mounting, jewellery repairs and bespoke designs. Please call us on our freephone 0800 074 8811 or e-mail us with an image if you would like something made which is not featured on our web-site or need some work done on your existing jewellery

A ring can go through a number of stages according to the type of order. Plain wedding rings not involving diamond setting or engraving will only go to to general workshop for filing down from an unfinished ring then to sizing, smoothing and finally polishing and possibly rhodium plating if the ring is white gold.

If the ring has to be diamond-set then it has to be drilled and prepared for the diamond setter or alternatively prepared with a smooth surface for the hand-engraver.

When it has been diamond-set or engraved it will be passed back to the workshop for polishing and plating if necessary.

The ring is passed to the setter usually with holes partially drilled or the mount assembled and prepared for setting.

The setter then has to finally prepare the setting for the stone so that it fits exactly. This involves drilling and filing to get the perfect life-long fit. If the setting is badly prepared, the stone may fall out. There is no glue or adhesive to keep the stone in place.

Rings can be engraved inside and outside and this is done with sharp hand tools and the aid of a magnifying glass inside rings as narrow as 2mm! After engraving, the ring is passed back to the general workshop for a final polish. We can also engrave seals and monograms on cuff-links and signet rings. Also, initials or inscriptions can be engraved on napkin rings, picture frames, tankards and other wedding gifts.
