Caring for your diamonds
Any item of jewellery will need a bit of love and attention to keep it at its best, and diamond-set items are no exception - who wants a dull, dirty diamond?
Diamonds can be dulled from contact with grease, soap, skin oils and cosmetics. We suggest a moderate clean, using the advice below, once a month to keep the diamond at its brilliant best. Please keep in mind that some detergents may react with the precious metal setting of the ring, and adjust advice/instructions accordingly.
- The Detergent Bath: Prepare a small bowl of warm suds with any mild liquid detergent. Brush the diamonds gently with a soft toothbrush while they are in the suds. Transfer to a wire strainer and rinse under warm running water. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- The Cold Water Soak: Make a 50:50 solution of cold water and household ammonia in a cup. Soak the diamond for 30 minutes. Lift out and gently tap around the back and front of the setting with a small brush. Swish in the solution once more, and drain on paper. No rinse is needed.
- The Quick-Dip Method: Buy one of the brand name liquid jewellery cleaners and follow the instructions.
General Tips

- Don't wear your diamond doing hard chores even diamonds can be chipped by a hard blow and it may loosen the setting, risking the loss of the diamond.
- Don't jumble all your jewellery together diamonds can scratch each other and other jewellery.
