Short Poems To Read At Your Wedding

Here are a few short and touching poems which are easy to read if your Made of Honour or Mother of the Bride is nervous of public speaking. If you want a verse that is touching and romantic you may be inclined to choose something down to earth it doesn't have to be Shakespeare!

When the one whose hand you're holding
Is the one one who holds your heart
When the one whose eyes you gaze into
Gives your hopes and dreams their start,
When the one you think of first and last
Is the one who holds you tight,
And the things you plan together
Make the whole world seem just right,
When the one whom you believe in
puts their faith and trust in you,
You've found the one and only love
You'll share your whole life through.

Author Unknown

This day I married my best friend
the one I laugh with as we share life's wonderous zest,
as we find new enjoyments and experience all that's best.
the one I live for because the world seems brighter
as our happy times are better and our burdens feel much lighter.
the one I love with every fiber of my soul.
We used to feel vaguely incomplete, now together we are whole.

She Walks In Beauty by Lord Byron

A marriage is a promise
 That two hearts gladly make
 A promise to be tender
To help, to give and take

A marriage is a promise
 To be kind and understanding
 To be thoughtful and considerate
 Fair and undemanding

A marriage is a promise
 To share one life together
A love-filled promise meant to be
 Kept lovingly forever

Author Unknown

Lord, behold our family here assembled.
We thank you for this place in which we dwell,
for the love that unites us,
for the peace accorded us this day,
for the hope with which we expect the morrow,
for the health, the work, the food,
 and the bright skies that make our lives delightful;
for our friends in all parts of the earth.

Wedding Prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson

The fountains mingle with the river,
 And the rivers with the ocean;

The winds of heaven mix forever,
 With a sweet emotion;
 Nothing in the world is single;

All things by a law divine
 In one another's being mingle:-
 Why not I with thine?

See! the mountains kiss high heaven,
 And the waves clasp one another;
Now sister flower would be forgiven
 If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:-
What are all these kissing's worth,
 If thou kiss not me?

May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
 May it be sweet milk,
this marriage, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
 like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.

Elizabeth Bishop

Us Two ( Winnie the Pooh)

Wherever I am, there's always Pooh,

There's always Pooh and Me.

Whatever I do, he wants to do,

"Where are you going today?" says Pooh:

"Well, that's very odd 'cos I was too.

Let's go together," , says he.

"Let's go together," says Pooh.

So wherever I am, there's always Pooh,

There's always Pooh and Me.

"What would I do?" I said to Pooh,

"If it wasn't for you," and Pooh said: "True,

It isn't much fun for One, but Two,

Can stick together, says Pooh, says he. "That's how it is," says Pooh.

A.A. Milne

True love is a sacred flame
 That burns eternally
And none can dim its special glow
 Or change its destiny
True love speaks in tender tones
 And hears with gentle ear
True love gives with open heart
 And true love conquers fear
True love makes no harsh demands
 It neither rules nor binds
And true love holds with gentle hands
 The heart that it entwines

We hope that one of these verses captures your imagination, just print them out for a reading during the wedding speeches or the arrival at the wedding reception. Some of these poems can be found on Hitched.

Whatever The Weather- Wedding Guide

As we wrap up against the cold January chill, many 'soon to be wed' couples are watching the weather updates very closely indeed. It can be a huge worry when you discover that the rainy English weather is forecast for your wedding day!

However rain can actually add a unique and beautiful element to your big day if you get inspired and be prepared. The more you organise for any weather situation come rain or shine, the happier you will be on the day!

Here is a guide of hints and tips..

Prepare to dodge the showers with a rain proof schedule: Have alternative photo locations both sheltered and in the open.

Have towels and umbrella racks available for guests to shake off and get dry. Umbrellas should be available in helpful places along the route, for the gentlemen to hold over the ladies.

If you want to go the extra mile for your guests in colder weather then you could provide hot drinks and warm canapes at the reception to boost the morale..

Wellies and Brollies

Whether your expecting a light drizzle or a heavy shower, umbrellas and wellington boots are a must-have seasonal wedding buy. There is an endless choice of these accessories on the market from feminine patterns wellies to intricate parasols.

Clear umbrellas are fantastic for photographs as they do not create any dark shadows in photographs and can be used to take shots outside even whilst it's raining.

You could embrace the weather whilst having your photographs taken in matching wellingtons. If that's not your thing, then you may want to hide your boots under your wedding gown when crossing wet grass or sand.

Get in the spirit

There are so many incredible photo opportunities that can happen in the rain, ushers lending an umbrella to the bridesmaids, the bride and groom romantically kissing in the rain. Instead of trying to avoiding natures elements get into the spirit of it and have fun getting wet!

Then afterwards you can enjoy cuddling up with your guests for a cosy evening..

Wet Weather Gadgets

It may be useful to ask your photographer to organise a test shoot in the rain to practice capturing you both looking natural in the rain. The following gadgets could be very useful on the day..

Camera Rain Cover- protect your camera when shooting during wet weather

Stilhettoe covers- Plastic wedges to pop on your high heels to stop you from sinking on soft surfaces

Water-resistant make up- Mascara and foundation that is water resistant will help to keep you looking gorgeous whether you have tear stained cheeks or you have been caught in.

I hope that this short guide helps you to stay positive and rock your wedding whatever the weather !!
