Wedding Readings for Football Fans

This week’s reading is an excerpt from Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley. Graffiti Moon is a young adult novel that follows the love story of protagonist Lucy and the elusive graffiti artist Shadow. The book is written part in prose and part in poetry. There are a lot of beautiful extracts from the novel that would work well for a wedding, but this extract in particular is one of our favourite wedding readings for football fans.

“If my like for you was a football crowd, you’d be deaf ‘cause of the roar. And if my like for you was a boxer, there’d be a dead guy lying on the floor. And if my like for you was sugar, you’d lose your teeth before you were twenty. And if my like for you was money, let’s just say you’d be spending plenty.”

Why We love It

This is one of our favourite wedding readings for football fans. It is nice and succinct, so would fit well at any point during the ceremony or reception. While the metaphors in the text shift away from football, they remind gender neutral in appeal so would work well for any type of couple.

While simple, this quote hits hard the all consuming nature of love. It speaks to the giddiness of true love, and the way it can imbue all aspects of life.

If you like this reading, keep your eyes peeled next Sunday and every Sunday from here on out. We will share more wedding readings for football fans, second weddings, vow renewals, and more.
