Welcome back to our Sunday segment, Wedding Readings Ideas. Here we source and share some of our favourite texts perfect for weddings. This week we are focusing on wedding readings for nature lovers. We try and include a variety of ideas so that there is a reading suggestion for every kind of speech at every kind of wedding!
However, if you are looking for a reading suggestion for a specific event, please feel free to leave us a comment. We would love to help you source one.
This week’s reading is an extract from beloved children’s novel, The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett.
One of the strange things about living in the world is that it is only now and then one is quite sure one is going to live forever and ever and ever.
One knows it sometimes when one gets up at the tender solemn dawn-time and goes out and stands alone and throws one’s head far back and looks up and up and watches the pale sky slowly changing and flushing and marvellous unknown things happening until the East almost makes one cry out and one’s heart stands still at the strange unchanging majesty of the rising of the sun—which has been happening every morning for thousands and thousands of years.
One knows it then for a moment or so. And one knows it sometimes when one stands by oneself in a wood at sunset and the mysterious deep gold stillness slanting though and under the branches seems to be saying slowly again and again something one cannot quite hear, however much one tries.
Then sometimes the immense quiet of the dark blue at night with millions of stars waiting and watching makes one sure; and sometimes a sound of far-off music makes it true; and sometimes a look in someone’s eye.
This is one of our favourite wedding readings for nature lovers. This is because it links the beauty of the natural world to the beauty of love itself. It is the perfect reading for anyone who works in nature, or enjoys spending time outside together. We love the way this extract suggests that we can live on forever through the beauty of the natural world. This concept is then linked to love itself as another means of living eternally. It is a beautiful piece which explores the way in which all living things are connected. The beauty in those connections is linked to the feeling of romantic love.
If you like this reading, keep your eyes peeled next Sunday and every Sunday from here on out. We will share more wedding readings for nature lovers, second weddings, vow renewals, and more.
