Danny & Lavinia

Danny and Lavinia met in New York where they spent a fantastic year together before moving back to the UK. Five years later the happy couple began planning a trip back to New York for a holiday and Danny decided that this would be the perfect place to propose. With this in mind Danny started his hunt for the perfect ring. Danny knew that Lavinia would love a vintage style ring with lots of added bling and that she would like a square diamond. However, after beginning his search it was clear that the ring he had envisioned wasn't so easy to find.

It was at this point that Danny decided to approach our bespoke team to see if we could help. Although Danny had an idea of the style of ring Lavinia would like, he was struggling to know where to start with the design and which diamond specification to go for. Our bespoke team helped to transform his ideas into different options for him to choose between.

After conferring with friends and family Danny settled on a design which incorporated pave set diamonds on three sides of the shank, mill grain details,  and a cushion cut centre stone. Cushion cut diamonds are usually a square or rectangular shape with rounded corners. They have a reputation for standing out as a more classic and romantic cut of diamond. Cushion cut diamonds were very popular in the 19th century and therefore seemed the perfect choice for a vintage style engagement ring.

Once Danny had confirmed all of the final details, the design was passed to our workshop and the manufacturing process began. The ring was made from platinum wire then hand shaped to Lavinia's finger size. The mount for the cushion cut diamond was made from a small piece of platinum sheet that was filed into the appropriate shape and then soldered onto the ring. The claws that would eventually hold the centre stone were soldered to the mount and the holes were then drilled for all the little diamonds that would sit around the edge and along the shoulders. Once all of the stones had been set into the ring the mill grain edge was then applied by hand so as to give the ring its vintage touch.

With the couple's New York trip quickly approaching, the timescales we were working to were rather tight. However, thankfully our jewellers work well under pressure and the ring was delivered on time. So as to avoid interception by Lavinia we sent the completed ring to Danny's office where he waited nervously. However, as soon as he saw the ring he knew it was perfect and that the only answer to his question would be yes!

Danny proposed a few days later at the same place where they had had their first date. Lavinia was blown away with the ring and loved the bespoke, vintage design. Danny has told us how, a few months on, he still catches her gazing at it.
